Musings & Thoughts for Friday, July 1, 2022, or: What? A New Month Started Today?

Look! I got a haircut! And a beard trim! (Photo by LCH)

Hi, there, Dear Reader. It is midafternoon in Lithia, Florida, on Friday, July 1, 2022. It is a hot, cloudy, and typically humid and rainy day here in the Tampa Bay area. Currently, the temperature is 90°F (32°C) under cloudy skies. With the wind blowing from the west-southwest at 9 MPH (15 KM/H) and humidity at 65%, the heat index is 99°F (37°C). Today’s forecast calls for thunderstorms to pass through the area, and the high is expected to reach 93°F (34°C). Tonight, scattered rain showers are expected to affect the Tampa Bay area. The low will be 75°F (24°C).

Yesterday afternoon was stormy; the thunderstorms rolled in after 4 PM and stuck around till 6 PM or so. Sandy, our elderly miniature schnauzer, doesn’t like lightning or thunder, so she had a bit of an anxiety attack that wasn’t assuaged till around 9 PM or so. I spent much of my evening petting and speaking to her in gentle, soothing tones to ease her fear; I’m not fond of thunderstorms either, so I could relate to how Sandy felt.

As for today, the first day of the seventh month of the year:

Here I am with my tall glass of Foster’s. Also, yes, that’s a Colombian national soccer team jersey.
  • The Caregiver took me out to get a haircut and a beard trim, then we went to lunch at Outback Steakhouse. I had a prime rib sandwich with fries, and washed it down with a tall glass of Foster’s beer; I also have a second prime rib sandwich – with mashed potatoes – in reserve for dinner
  • My two Star Wars mugs arrived while we were gone. I’m still put off by the fact that someone in the house broke my first What I Learned from Star Wars mug, but luckily I was able to afford a replacement
  • I got some reading done; I knew we were going to have to wait at the haircut place for a while, so I took a book – James Holland’s The Battle of Britain – and read a couple of chapters from it while waiting for my turn at the stylist’s chair
  • We’re seeing some rain now, and I heard thunder in the distance, so once again, we’re going to see boomers in our area this afternoon

The Caregiver, meanwhile, dropped me off at the house, brought my leftovers/dinner inside, and went off to be with her boyfriend. I feel sorry for the man, although the Caregiver ditched me for him in 2020 and made me involuntarily single again, and because he is not going to get a new liver, I don’t think he will survive to see another year. I told the Caregiver that she should take heed and learn from this, because if she doesn’t change her own bad habits, she might end up with cirrhosis of the liver, too.

Aside from that, I don’t have much to report. I received my monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income deposits today because the third of July falls on a Sunday and Monday is the Fourth of July. I’ll pay my rent and send off another payment to the Visa card that I used to buy this PC this weekend.

Since I don’t have anything truly noteworthy to add, I’ll close this post here. Until next time, Dear Reader, stay safe, stay healthy, and I’ll catch you on the sunny side of things.

Unless, of course, it’s raining.

  1. Looking good Alex. You are going to have the ladies wanting a piece of you now.
I love Fosters lager, it is rich with body that many beers lack and a flavor unmatched by the competition.

  2. With all the single ladies taking notice of your new look, try to remember that outer beauty is a wonderful thing to have but it’s what’s on the inside that’s a game-changer.
