Annoyances: Major & Minor

Major

  1. Cyber-stalkers
  2. Overdependence on other people
  3. Political extremism (on both sides of the political “aisle”; I don’t care if you’re conservative or liberal. If you are willing to support violent acts – like the January 6 attack on the Capitol – for political motives, be gone)
  4. Censorship of any kind (especially if it’s a question of personal/professional interests or hobbies)
  5. Rudeness, thoughtlessness, and arrogance
  6. Internet trolls
  7. Smokers/heavy drinkers
  8. Judgmental people
  9. MAGA/Kari Lake fans
  10. Nazis (both the World War II era originals and modern-day Hitler admirers)

Minor

  1. Loud music after midnight
  2. Spam emails
  3. Porn bots on social media
  4. Self-published writers who don’t do “due diligence” regarding editing, rewriting, revising, and publishing books that are not, well, readable
  5. Stupid, ignorant people
  6. Thunderstorms
  7. Conspiracy theories or weird views about history, such as “Lee Harvey Oswald was a patsy,” or “Adolf Hitler did not kill himself in Berlin but escaped to Argentina.”
  8. Bad movies
  9. Bad TV shows
  10. Reality TV shows, such as The Bachelor/The Bachelorette and Naked and Afraid

  1. You’re too kind. People who play loud music after midnight and keep me up ought to be taken out and thrown into the deepest part of the Pacific.

    1. Yikes. Expensive punishment, though. You’d have to fly the perps all the way to Guam, then drop them into the Marianas Trench.

      It WOULD solve the problem!

      1. …it’s WORTH it…

      2. I endured the loud music scenario so many times during my last six or seven years in Miami it’s not even funny. In my old neighborhood, the houses are often built, I guess, in clusters of four, and they’re only separated by a relatively thin concrete wall. One house was really bad because the younger residents of the house would throw loud parties when the owners went away on vacation, and it sounded as though the music was coming from inside the walk-in closet in the bedroom where Mom spent her last five years.

      3. For many years, I was prone to migraines. Loud noises of any kind were unbearable.

      4. I used to get headaches at parties I attended when I was in high school, plus the extra-loudness of the music played at those get-togethers just made my hearing loss issues worse.

      5. UGH. Hearing loss is not something I have to deal with. My husband, who working machine shops when he was younger, is dealing with that. I tend to speak softly (so I’m told) so I’d getting used to repeating things a lot.

      6. My hearing was never that good even before high school. I’ve always had issues with that…it’s common in cases of preemies who are stricken by cerebral palsy shortly after birth.

      7. That sucks. My dearly beloved has trouble in a restaurant on in another place where there’s a lot of background noise. I may as well be trying to talk to him by semaphore. Plus, it’s very disorienting.

      8. All I can say about my hearing loss is:
        1. Thank the Force for subtitles on home media and even on Amazon Prime.
        2. I have never understood why people need, like actually NEED, to listen to music so loud that it damages people’s hearing and annoys those who don’t enjoy X genre or Y genre.

      9. Re your husband: That’s awful. Hearing loss sucks, especially since it has negative effects on interpersonal relationships and the enjoyment of social activities.

      10. Also, it didn’t help matters that I’m not a fan of the genre that was usually played at these house parties.

  2. Usually all I heard was the bass. it rattled pics I had hanging on the wall.

    1. Depending on the song/size of gathering/loudness of the stereo system, the sounds varied. Most of the time, it was just the thump-thump-thump of the bass line. But…sometimes the music was so loud that melody, harmony, and vocals filtered through the concrete.
