Madison Summer Almanac

Hi, everyone. It’s a cold, dark, and damp early summer day in my corner of New England. The current temperature is 58°F (15°C) under light rain conditions. With humidity at 99% and the wind blowing from the south-southeast at 4 MPH (6 Km/H), the feels-like temperature is 64°F (18°C). Today’s forecast calls for scattered rain showers throughout the afternoon. The high will be 68°F (20°C). Tonight, the skies should be mostly clear. The low will be 51°F (11°C).

Weekend Update, Part the First: My Not-Too-Exciting Saturday

A screengrab from a gaming session shows how detailed the graphics are in ‘Regiments.’

Okay. This will be one of the shortest Weekend Update posts I’ve written. Aside from writing yesterday’s blog post, playing a partial skirmish in Regiments (I ended the game as soon as my first task force captured Objective Zone Alfa), and doing some laundry, I didn’t do much. The weather, which wasn’t as bad as today’s, didn’t enthuse me, and I couldn’t be motivated to work on my novel, so…not much to write about.

Weekend Plans: What I Can Expect (and Do) on a Rainy Sunday

Today?  As my Madison Summer Almanac points out, it’s chilly, gray, and rainy, so I can’t even go out to get fresh air and sun. So I’m not in the best of moods today.

I will try to entertain myself in some way; at least I have a nice 4K UHD TV with a compatible Blu-ray player in my bedroom, so if I can somehow muster the enthusiasm, I might watch a movie later.

 If not, I can always:

  • Read a book
  • Listen to music on my Amazon Music app or play a CD on my Blu-ray player in my bedroom
  • Play a computer game
  • Surf the net and read other people’s blogs
  • Watch YouTube videos

Aside from that…there’s not much that I can do. Rural life – which never held much of an appeal for me when I was younger – is bearable, but it’s not my ideal environment. (And it’s barely tolerable because I have Internet access. If I didn’t have that, I’d go batshit crazy.)

On the “good news” front, the forecast for tomorrow calls for nicer weather. The rain should clear out by tonight, and we can expect the workweek to begin tomorrow with mostly sunny skies and a high of 73°F (23°C). I tend to be less in a funk when the weather is nice, so I hope that the predictions for tomorrow hold true.
