Late Afternoon/Early Evening, Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Madison, New Hampshire

It’s been a gorgeous, sunny, but chilly autumn day in my corner of New Hampshire. As I write this shortly after 5 PM, the temperature outside is 58°F (15°C) under clear conditions. The sun is barely above the horizon, but there is the first frost warning of the season. It’s going to be cold tonight; the forecast for the Madison area calls for a low of 40°F (4°C). This afternoon I went out for a walk on Huttwill Drive. It was shortly before 4 PM, and it was already so chilly outside that I almost darted back to the house to get my gloves. I didn’t, though. I’ve been in New England long enough to tolerate colder temperatures than I’d otherwise like, if only for brief periods. It was a beautiful day, and I snapped a few photos with my phone to capture the essence of a place that I’ll remember as “home,” albeit for an unexpectedly brief time.

  1. 40 degrees is a bit on the cool side. I slept outside in 40 below though, so I am used to it. Soon you are back in Florida. Your photos are beautiful.

    1. Thanks for the kind comment about my photos.

About going back to Florida…yes, I’ll be back before the first snows fall here. I had the space heater on, so I was spared from the 40 degree chill last night.

  2. I hope Hurricane Milton is not going to get in your way. I guess Miami isn’t in its way but I assume you are going there by car or truck and have to pass through the devastation. I’ve been wondering about that.

    1. According to my friend Eric, we are not going to dash straight down to Florida right away. He and his wife Rosie want to do some traveling en route to Miami, so we won’t be in Florida for a while. That’s one of the reasons I need a GoFundMe campaign. This move is expensive: the renting of the U-Haul truck costs slightly over $1330. I’m sure Miami will be spared from the worst of Milton, but we’re bound to see a lot of damage when we drive through Central Florida.
