You Have Questions, I Have Answers: My Entry in Kymber’s Get to Know You #59

Mid-Morning, Saturday, March 29, 2025, Miami, Florida

Good morning, everyone! It’s just before seven here in beautiful South Florida, and while it’s still dark outside, I’m already up and ready to start my day. On this final Saturday of March 2025, I find myself unable to go back to sleep despite my best efforts. So, instead, I’ve decided to join in the fun with fellow WordPress blogger Kymber’s Getting to Know You – Round #59.

Kymber’s Round #59:

How would you feel if I tried to talk to you before you’ve had your morning cup of coffee?

My (now-in-the-trash) favorite Star Wars mug. (Photo by the author)

Most of the time, I would be delighted to chat with you, even if I haven’t had my cup of coffee yet. I may not be naturally gregarious or a sparkling conversationalist, but I’m usually a cheerful morning person. Of course, there are exceptions – if I’m stressed out or had a restless night filled with nightmares or insomnia, my mood might be a bit less sunny. When I’m in a relationship (though I’m currently single), I’m at my best because feeling loved and appreciated makes me feel more connected and engaged.

What’s your most repeated movie quote or phrase?

When I was younger, I sprinkled my conversations with movie quotes, especially during high school and college when interactions were more frequent and vibrant. In the 1980s, I often found myself joyfully reciting lines from Star Wars, like “May the Force be with you” and “I find your lack of faith disturbing.” These quotes brought a sense of camaraderie and fun to my friendships, sparking laughter and shared enthusiasm.

I don’t do this as much nowadays, but when I do, my go-to movie lines are:

(C) 2015 Universal Music Enterprises & Intrada Records

“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” – Jaws (1975)

(C) 1942, 2022 Warner Bros. 4K UHD packaging (C) 2022 Warner Bros. Home Entertainment/Studio Distribution Services

“Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.” – Casablanca (1942)

What’s the strangest nickname you’ve ever been given?

The Blue Slasher. This quirky nickname was bestowed upon me by a fellow editor during my college years at Miami-Dade Community College (now Miami-Dade College). As the copy editor, I wielded a non-photo blue pen to mark up the “flats” with corrections before we sent each issue off to the printers.

  1. That was interesting. I’ve done a few of these including this one but so far I’ve only answered with a comment in Kymber’s post. One day I may make a post.

    1. I’ve seen a few bloggers reply to Kymber’s “Get to Know You” Q&As with posts instead of answering in the “Comments” section. So, I decided to give that a try.

    1. Born and mostly raised here. Except for almost six years abroad as a kid and seven years either in Tampa or New Hampshire, I’ve lived in South Florida all my life. Just moved back to the area last October. 🙂

      2. Nice to meet you, too, Laura.

South Florida – especially the parts of it I know well – is so much in my DNA that when I was working on my almost-finished novel in snow-laden and very rural New Hampshire, I could still describe how hot it gets in Miami even in June and not have to wonder if I was misremembering anything,

I’m glad to meet you, Laura! 🙂

      3. There’s nothing else like it! So true. Once you’ve felt it, it’s hard to compare it to anything else!
Glad to meet you as well, Alex. Hope you’re having a great weekend! 😊

  3. Hello Alex, I nominated you for the Sunshine Blogger Award (see my latest post). I was nominated and you can nominate people as well. If you want to play along you can do that but I certainly do not expect anything. It is like a game; in case you are interested.

    1. That one’s a favorite. I’m not sure if I’ve used it more than once; I’ve been single too often, so I don’t get many chances to say it.
