Writing never moves in a straight line, but I can say with confidence—progress is happening. Comings and Goings: A Jim Garraty Story is taking shape, and with each scene, Jim’s world expands, his past collides with his present, and his quiet growth continues.
Right now, I’m deep into the early chapters, peeling back the layers of Jim’s first real college experience—the moments that shape him, challenge him, and remind him that stepping into the unknown is rarely as simple as it seems.
Take Scene Two, for example. A party Jim should never have attended, a conversation that shifts something in him, and an unexpected invitation that forces him to confront not just his inexperience, but his own sense of self-worth. Here’s a glimpse:
“I felt something shift—excitement, nerves, maybe a little panic. I had never been alone in a girl’s apartment before. Even with Kathy, I’d barely made it past the family room.
This was different.
‘Uh—’ I coughed slightly. ‘Yeah. Sure.’
Kelly tipped her head toward the street. ‘Come on, then.’
And just like that, the party was behind us.”
This is Jim—tentative, uncertain, but on the cusp of something new.
And while I’m building this next chapter in his life, don’t forget where it all started—the Reunion Duology (Reunion and Reunion: Coda). If you haven’t read them yet, now’s the perfect time.
I’ll keep writing. Jim will keep evolving. And soon enough, Comings and Goings will be ready to meet the world.
Stay tuned.
