From Miami to Cape Coral: A Leap Toward Independence

Here I am at Arbetter’s Hot Dogs in Miami. Man, I miss going there with friends….

I took this photo a decade ago during a trip to the Winn Dixie supermarket close to my former home in South Florida.

Life has always been a series of chapters for me—some filled with beauty and connection, others with challenge and growth. My time in Miami was one of those transitional chapters: meaningful, necessary, but always intended to be temporary. It was a place to catch my breath, reflect, and prepare for what was next.

Now, I’m stepping into that “next.”

An unexpected opportunity has emerged in Cape Coral—one that allows me to live independently, free from the constraints of an assisted living facility. For someone who deeply values autonomy, creativity, and connection, this move is more than a change of address. It’s a chance to reclaim my space in the world, to continue my journey with purpose, and to write the next chapter on my terms.

But as with many turning points, this moment comes with real financial hurdles. From renting a moving van to covering basic groceries and resettlement costs, the transition demands resources I simply don’t have right now. That’s why I started a GoFundMe campaign—to ask for help not just with moving, but with making a meaningful shift in my life.

Every contribution helps lighten the load and shortens the distance between where I am and where I need to be. If you believe in second chances, in new beginnings, or in the quiet power of community, I invite you to support this journey. Your generosity will carry me one step closer to a life built on hope, strength, and the freedom to thrive.

Thank you for being part of this moment—and this story.
