Two years ago today, I arrived in Madison, New Hampshire, after leaving Lithia, Florida. That anniversary should have been a quiet marker, a private reminder of how far I’ve traveled. Instead, I woke to devastating news: Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found dead in their Brentwood home by their daughter, Rony. The reports are still hazy—police have said little since the story broke last night—but it appears they were stabbed to death by their son, Nick.
I can’t shake the shock. Rob Reiner has been part of my creative landscape since I first saw him as Mike “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family. His films—When Harry Met Sally…, A Few Good Men, Misery, The Princess Bride—are woven into my shelves and my memory. He carried the wit and warmth of his father, Carl Reiner, who gave us The Dick Van Dyke Show and directed comedies that still sparkle. And beyond the art, Rob was a voice of conscience, unafraid to speak against Donald Trump and the politics of division.
I feel sad. Stunned. Bewildered. Angry. My thoughts circle back to his family—Tracy, Jake, Rony—and the impossible grief they now face. May Rob and Michele’s memories be a blessing, and may their legacy endure in the laughter, courage, and tenderness they left behind.

Horrific news, particularly given that their son is the prime suspect.

A horrific tragedy made even more appalling by Trump’s awful comment on Truth Social.

Yeah, I read about it in the Associated Press. Not sure what he was thinking.

Shocking news and a terrible loss for the creative community, and all those who treasure Rob Reiner for his wonderful body of work. Like you I fondly remember him as Meathead. May he and his wife RIP.

Rob Reiner was one of the filmmakers I most admired. He’s in the same league, creatively speaking, as Steven Spielberg.
Our political views also aligned, which was nice, especially in the current situation here in the States.

It is reassuring when political views align along with creative admiration!
