Well, here we are, 10 days after a mob of President Trump’s supporters stormed into the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to reverse Congressional certification of the 2020 election’s official Electoral College results, and it seems as though many right-wingers still live in a bubble of delusional illusion. Not only are many members of the “Red Cap Brigade’ still saying that their protest was peaceful, and that the violence was carried out by the right’s two favorite boogeymen – Black Lives Matter and Antifa – but some are still claiming on social media that Trump won the election and that he will be inaugurated for a second term come noon on January 20.
It seems like something out of a dystopian science fiction novel that millions of Americans have been so brainwashed into thinking that last November’s Presidential election was marred by “massive election fraud” – a claim that has been rejected by over 60 federal courts because Trump supporting lawyers, including Rudy Guiliani, Jenna Ellis, Lin Wood, and Sidney Powell, filed spurious allegations of voter fraud in several states where President-elect Joe Biden won on November 3 without any evidence.
But Trump, who wanted to hang on, limpet-like, to the Presidency in part because as a sitting President he can’t be taken to court in the Southern District of New York, which has several cases involving Trump and his companies pending, kept Tweeting and crying “We won a huge victory and it is being stolen by lying, cheating Democrats who want to turn America into a Communist hellhole.”
Tragically, many of his devoted loyalists believe this malarkey, even after two months of sworn statement from election supervisors – both Republican and Democratic – in all 50 states that no major fraud took place, and the few cases of illegal votes that came to light were done by Trump supporters.

It boggles the mind.

What’s really frightening is that many men and women have become so radicalized by social media (with its algorithms that “push” stories on users’ timelines based on the data that Facebook and other sites gather with every interaction) that individuals that in previous eras were pillars of the community behave like Nazi sympathizers did in Nazi Germany before World War II.
Consider the bizarre tale of Jennifer Leigh Ryan, aka Jenna Ryan, a Dallas, TX area real estate agent who was arrested recently for her role in the recent Capitol breach.
Per an article in CBS Dallas-Fort Worth station CBS 11/21:
CARROLLTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Frisco realtor Jenna Ryan, who was seen in photos and video at the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot, has been taken into custody, the FBI confirmed Friday afternoon.
The FBI also executed a search warrant at Ryan’s home in Carrollton as they gathered evidence. A CBS 11 News crew was at the scene, where federal agents could be seen entering the home and an authority presence in front of and behind the house.
Ryan, who took a private plane to Washington D.C. on the day of the riot, faces charges of knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
Before her criminal complaint was unsealed in D.C., Ryan told CBS 11 News that she never entered the Capitol building. She posted a picture of her posing outside of the building in front of a broken window with a caption that read, “”Window at the capital (sic). And if the news doesn’t stop lying about us we’re going to come after their studios next.”
However, video evidence shows her inside the building as hundreds stormed their way inside.
She said in a statement to CBS 11 News: “I do not condone the violence that occurred on January 6, 2020 and I am truly heartbroken for the people who lost their lives.”
If you go to Ryan’s Twitter account at https://twitter.com/dotjenna, you’ll notice that her tone shifts greatly from being proudly defiant to playing the victim as she notices that public reaction to her antics at the Capitol are not as supportive as she thought they’d be.

And, as I mentioned earlier, Ryan was arrested by the FBI yesterday; she was interviewed by Dallas-area media and is probably ensconced in her Frisco home, but she has not made any tweets since January 12.
I find it amazing that where the majority of the Twitterverse sees Jenna Ryan as a treasonous insurrectionist, she still sees herself as a “patriot.”
