We sit in silence, sipping cocoa
As Maddie plays the piano
She fills the air with melodies
That stir our hearts and memories

We think of all that we have seen
In Central Park, where we have been
The beauty and the pain of life
The joy and sorrow, love and strife

We hold each other’s hands and gaze
Into each other’s eyes, a blaze
Of passion and of tenderness
Of longing and of happiness

We feel the music in our veins
The rhythm and the chords, the strains
Of Beethoven, Brahms, and Joplin
Of love and loss, of hope and sin

We know that soon we have to part
But we will always have this art
This moment and this melody
This cocoa and this harmony

  1. Such a sad but beautiful poem.

    1. It works best if you play the (audio-only) video!

And thanks! I based it on a scene from “the new story,” too.

      2. Alas, that bites! See if you can find a way to listen to Scott Joplin’s piano rag Solace – A Mexican Serenade.

Hope you’re having a nice day where you are!

      4. I’m about to do battle with – erm…work on my manuscript.

BUT…I’ve had my two cups of coffee, so I’m having a good morning. (Oh, and if you listen to Solace, let me know what you think!)

      6. I somehow coaxed 1,008 words out of my noggin today. Not as many as yesterday, but it’s still slightly over my 1,000-word minimum daily goal.

      7. Yeah, you still reached your goal which is great.

      8. Yes, and since it doesn’t have any (major) spoilers, I decided to share it on my second post of the day.
