The view from my creative writing program, WriteItNow.

Today’s writing efforts were acceptable. I added 882 words to the manuscript – not the 1K-word goal I was shooting for, but fuck, I’ll take it. 882 words is still three pages of story, is it not? So, yes, my friends, I did as well as I could. I accomplished my mission: finish the scene in a way that is consistent with what has already been written (and established) and, most importantly, is both engaging and believable.

Oh, and the person in Concord Music’s permissions department finally emailed me back regarding the use of some lyrics I need to use in the novel. That’s the “good news.” The “meh” news is that today is her last day there, so she punted my query to the people that will deal with it in the future. (I had no idea that getting permission to use lyrics from a song was so… nerve-racking.)

The important thing is that Scene Three of Chapter Nine is done. Is it any good? I’d like to think so, but it’s still a first draft.

    1. Thanks!

Sometimes I think I’m like Sisyphus, rolling that boulder up that steep hill in the Underworld, especially when I have “low output” days or must deal with new challenges, such as getting permission to use lyrics. This is the first attempt at “novel writing” that has gotten as far as Chapter Nine, and I’ve already devoted almost three months to it.

I am determined to see it to the bitter end, though.
