Hi, there, Dear Reader. It’s midday (or almost midday) here in Lithia, Florida, on Sunday, June 18, 2023. As I begin this – my 240th blog post for 2023 and 1,140th overall – it is a hot (83°F/28°C) early summer day in the Tampa Bay area. Right now, there’s not a heckuva lot of sun around; we had some thunderstorms in the area during the night, and although the forecast doesn’t call for more storms or even scattered showers, the skies are mostly cloudy on this hot ‘n’ sticky (85% humidity) Sunday in mid-June.
A Quick Weekend Update

I didn’t do much yesterday. It was, of course, Saturday, so even though I did flirt with the notion of working on Reunion: Coda at least for a couple of hours, I decided against it. First, even though I know what I want to write, I didn’t have a strong desire to devote time and effort to a project that I already spend so much time on from Monday to Friday. And, quite frankly, I didn’t have any prompts or ideas that fired my imagination enough to change my “Meh, I’ll work on the manuscript on Monday” mentality.

So, yeah. As of today, it’s all quiet on the (novel) writing front.
Unfortunately, aside from following my predictable (and boring) weekend routine of staying mostly in my room and killing time on social media, writing the occasional blog post, or gaming, I didn’t do anything.
Oh, I did some self-assigned chores to keep busy and be helpful, sure. And I tried to have a positive outlook on life, even if this is “easier said than done,” given my current situation. (The way I almost accomplished this was by reminding myself that [a] I still have that novel to work on, which gives me at least some purpose in life, and [b] at least I don’t have to deal with my half-sister anymore…)

As for today, I expect today will just be more of the same. It’s too hot and humid for me to go out (unless I do it in the early evening hours), so venturing to the nearby park is not a likely option. And outside of the folks I live with, I don’t know too many people in the Tampa Bay area, so I can’t get in touch with anyone and say, “Hey, what’s up? Wanna go to a movie? Or to eat at Denny’s?” So…going out with friends is definitely not on my Bingo card.
Thus, my only choices for entertaining myself on this Father’s Day 2023 are as follows:
- Watching something on the big TV set out in the family room, whether it’s a movie, TV series episode, filmed concert, or a documentary
- Reading – I should do that anyway since reading a lot is a requirement if one is truly serious about being a writer
- Listening to music without writing at the same time
- Gaming
- Killing time on Facebook and Twitter
On the positive side of things, at least I have options. Millions of people in the United States and, indeed, throughout the world, have it far, far worse than I do.
I better wrap this up; I’m a bit hungry even though I had a quick breakfast around 9:30 AM, so I better see what I can fix for lunch. At my old South Florida townhouse, I had a Denny’s within walking distance, and even though I did not go out for lunch – or dinner – there every week, at least I had that option and could have, say, a Moons Over My Hammy sandwich or a Grand Slam Breakfast. I miss doing that!
