Monday, Monday…and Stormy Weather?
It’s late morning in Lithia, Florida, on Monday, June 19, 2023. It’s a hot (84°F/29°C) early summer day here in my corner of the Tampa Bay area, and since we are close to the start of “astronomical summer” – it begins on Wednesday, June 21, the day of the summer solstice, aka the “longest day of the year” – it’s going to be hotter by late afternoon. As it is, the feels-like temperature is 92°F/33°C, and the humidity is at 70%.
This means conditions are perfect for thunderstorms to form. The forecast for today does call for “boomers” to move through our area. Right now (10:09 AM EDT), the skies around Tampa and the surrounding areas are cloud-free, and I should be able to work on my manuscript for a few hours before severe weather affects the area. I need to start on that soon, so the second part of my weekend wrap-up will be short.
Weekend Update, Part the Second

To be honest, any account of what I did yesterday would have been short whether the weather affected my work schedule or not. As has been the case for the past three years, I didn’t socialize with friends, go out anywhere – fun or otherwise – or even bother to venture beyond the confines of the house.
Technically, of course, I could have at least tried to go out for a walk and greeted a neighbor or two, but both the summer heat – which I find more oppressive as I get older – and my shyness get in the way of that. I wasn’t like that in South Florida, but that’s how I am now.
So, what did I do to entertain myself yesterday, besides writing two blog posts on A Certain Point of View, Too?

Not a hell of a lot, really. I did a few self-assigned chores to help around the house, then I:
- Tried playing a Skirmish in Regiments but got bored and quit after my first of the three task forces allotted to my unit captured Objective Zone Alfa in the Runway Attack scenario
- Listened to music, both on my Amazon Music app and on YouTube (which is what inspired me to write On Music – Songs, Instrumental Pieces, and Themes For a Hot June Sunday in Florida)
- Ordered the least expensive items on the Pizza Hut menu (a Personal Pan Pizza and an order of Melts) for dinner; I really miss cooking on an electric stove and would have preferred making scrambled eggs, but it is what it is
- Played Leap of Faith, one of the six “adult visual novels” computer games I own, and the one with the best and most moving storyline
- Started watching – incredibly late, at that – Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan from the newer 4K UHD/2K Blu-ray set on my small (and inadequate) bedroom TV. I chose to watch it with director Nicholas Meyer’s commentary track rather than just as a movie experience. Partly to listen to the witty and informative Meyer, but mostly to get sleepy so I could get some rest
And, that’s it. That was my Sunday is Funday. It wasn’t a bad day, relatively speaking. But it also wasn’t a great day, either.

I wouldn’t really want to take a walk in summer and I’m pretty shy/introverted so because of that too. Hope you have a great week ahead.

Today is a scorcher; it’s 90/32 degrees outside, and it’s almost 5 PM here in the Tampa area. And…it feels like 99/37, so…there’s no way I’m going out there, shyness or no shyness!
I did, at long last, start Chapter 10 of my novel today, so if I can keep writing at least one scene per day from now till Friday evening, I’ll call that a great week. Thank you, Pooja, for your encouraging words.
