Midday/Early Afternoon, Tuesday, November 28, 2023, Lithia, Florida

Hi, everyone.
I’m off to a later-than-usual start today. It’s – by Florida standards, anyway – a cold day in the Tampa Bay area. The temperature on this late autumn day is 58°F/14°C under cloudy skies. I don’t watch much live television here, so I haven’t seen the news or weather reports in ages, but my many decades of living in Florida tell me a cold front pushed through the area yesterday. Today’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high of 61°F/16°C.

Needless to say, the weather up in Madison, New Hampshire, is even chillier. Though the skies there are cheerier – they’re partly sunny now – the temperature in the area that I’ll be calling home once I get there in two weeks or so is just above freezing: 35°F/2°C. The forecast for Carroll County (where Madison is located) calls for mostly sunny skies and a high of 36°F/2°C.
I am not known for my fondness of cold weather, but I’m determined to adapt to living up North with a positive attitude – even though I haven’t got any thermal underwear and have no idea which brand or size would be best for me. I’ll just have to do the “layers” thing and hope I don’t end up like Jack Nicholson’s Jack Torrance in The Shining.
Countdown to M-Day Musings
14 days…and counting.
My Monday was quiet and uneventful. I worked for a bit on making minor nips and tucks on the manuscript for Reunion: Coda, but aside from going out for a quick walk around 5:15 PM (when it was already getting a bit dark and chilly outside), I didn’t do much yesterday.

And based on my mood and energy levels, I’m afraid that today will be “more of the same.” Almost all of my movies and books are packed in moving boxes – the Florida room resembles the government warehouse from the end sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark now – and all of my music CDs are packed away as well. So, I’m a bit bored and somewhat limited into what I can do besides work on my novel – in editing mode, anyway – and play computer games to kill time.
Accordingly, I’m not in the best of moods today, and since I don’t have much in the way of updates – I still can’t use my phone normally because of the issues with the battery, and I can’t figure out what brand/size of thermal underwear to get – I will just close this post here. Until next time, stay safe, stay healthy, and I’ll catch you on the sunny side of things.

Where I live in Michigan, it is 25°F/-3°C. I’m sitting here with a heating pad on my feet because they feel like ice, and a cat draped across them because he likes the heating pad, too. LOL
I hope tomorrow is a good day for you in every way. 🙂

I don’t have thermal underwear so not sure if you’ll need it. Usually when I’m in the house I just add a blanket if it’s chilly. I think all of the curtains are gone from the windows – you might want thermal ones that will keep the cool out of the room better. I have them in the living room where I sit next to the window. When it’s cold enough that I can feel the cold through the window I just pull them over and it really solves the issue.

I certainly understand that moving day, December 12, will be stressful and make you nervous. Incidentally December 12 is stressful for me too but for an entirely different reason. A few months ago, I signed up for taking the B1 French test administered by the French government, and the test date is December 12, and it’s the whole day. Basically, you prove that you can understand, read, write and speak French well enough to function independently in French society (understand the news, read newspapers, write short essays, go through interviews, etc.). If you pass the B1 test you are allowed to become a French citizen as an immigrant. No, I am not planning to immigrate to France, it is just a challenge I took upon myself, but now I am starting to have second thoughts. Well, we’ll see how it goes. As for your move, I hope it all goes well without incident and that you meet nice people in New Hampshire.

I do recommend the thermals, even if they’re just cheap ones – you’re not acclimated to the cold yet, and when you’re not acclimated, they are tremendously helpful for keeping warm. I also recommend getting them in one size larger than your normal size – no matter how close I follow the cleaning instructions, they have always shrunk soon after purchase when I’ve laundered them.
