Late Morning/Midday, Monday, December 4, 2023, Lithia, Florida

A 2022 photo of my Ikea BILLY shelves, with most of my Star Wars The Black Series figures on display. All of the stuff you see here, except the shelves, is in boxes now.

Hi, everyone. As you can see, today I’m writing (and publishing) a post at the usual time rather than well into the evening hours. I hope that you’ll understand that as Moving Out Day gets closer to getting here, it will be harder for me to avoid being overcome by emotion even though I agreed to leave this house as long ago as November of 2022 and stayed here not because I am obstructing the departure process, but because the initial offer of renting a house close to Lithia was withdrawn, and Florida just plain sucks for people who need places with affordable rents. I want to leave, but at the same time, I’m sad, you know?

Anyway, as I begin this post, it’s a warm day here in the Fish Hawk neighborhood in Lithia. The temperature outside is 81°F/27°C under sunny conditions. The feels-like temperature is 88°F/31°C, thanks to the high humidity in the atmosphere. Today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high of 81°F/27°C.

In contrast, the weather in Madison, New Hampshire, is more like “it’s only three weeks till Christmas.” The temperature there is 32°F/0°C under cloudy skies. With humidity at 86%, the feels-like temperature is 41°F/5°C. The forecast for the area calls for cloudy skies and a high of 34°F/1°C.

Weekend Update, Part the Third

Since I wrote yesterday’s post later than usual, there’s not much I can say about my Sunday. I ended up watching an episode of Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s The Vietnam War to avoid getting bored with The War. I watched the first part out on the Florida room TV instead of watching it in my room, and even though I started watching it at 8:30 PM or so, I nodded off a few times and almost fell fast asleep on the couch.

I woke up just enough to check on my Amazon order of the 4K UHD releases of Stand By Me and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny – the delivery appointment was set up, and the package is marked as shipped, though the tracking history was vague about where it’s coming from. As of right now, it’s still estimated that it will arrive tomorrow by 10 PM. (That’s OK. I can stream the movie from Disney+ if I get the urge to watch it before I get the physical discs.)

After that…well, I went to bed and slept till 6:30 AM today.

Action This Day

I don’t think that I will do much of anything after I post this on WordPress. I am, after all, on “vacation” from writing my novel, so there’s no scheduled writing time for Reunion: Coda on this first Monday in December. If I get restless about that, I’ll do some editing to the existing draft; that will reduce the number of mistakes in the manuscript and make the publication process a bit easier. It won’t eliminate all of them, even with spellchecking and other Word features at my disposal, but it will get rid of the more egregious errors.

I will also go for a walk, perhaps within the next hour. We’ll see, though. I tend to be absent-minded when I’m stressed out and trust me…thinking about the Big Move North is stressful. I often think I’m going to do something – like, say, go for a walk or shave – and then hours will pass, the skies will go dark, and then I’ll find out that I dithered or just plain forgot what I wanted to do in the first place.

Anyway, that’s all the news I have to share, so…I’ll just sign off here. Till next time, stay safe, stay healthy, and I’ll catch you on the sunny side of things.
