Morning, Sunday, December 10, 2023, Lithia, Florida

Hi, there. As I begin to write this – my 1,357th post for A Certain Point of View, Too – it is shortly before 6 AM and still dark outside. I’ve been awake for almost 90 minutes – I had to go to the bathroom and couldn’t go back to sleep – and now I’m waiting for the sun to rise on my last Sunday here.

This being December, it’s cold – by Florida standards – outside. The temperature is 65°F/18°C under clear skies. Sunrise is still an hour away, and it looks as though we’ll have clear skies until a huge weather system moves into the Tampa Bay area later in the day and brings us heavy rains and lots of lightning. So much for having a nice last Sunday in Florida.

What little remains of my furniture here – the last remnants of my IKEA Billy bookshelves, mostly – will likely be dismantled later today. I don’t know if my desk and small dresser (which are also from IKEA) will be removed today or tomorrow; probably tomorrow cos I still will be sleeping here tonight and Monday, and I do need to have my TV up and running at least for today and tomorrow as well. No matter what, though, seeing the room I’ve called my own for almost six years being stripped of everything that marked it as my personal space is depressing as hell.

Last night was a bit of a downer, too. I made my final order to Pizza Hut – I obviously won’t be here next weekend, and the Pizza Hut restaurant in Madison closed in 2020 during the COVID-19 outbreak and never re-opened – and ended up watching – or trying to watch – the 50th Anniversary edition of American Graffiti. I started watching George Lucas’s nostalgia-laden comedy (and first big hit) at a reasonable hour, but I fell asleep early because – like today – I had risen well before dawn and was exhausted.

Depression and anxiety, it seems, play havoc with my ability to sleep, methinks.

It’s still dark out, so I’m going to sign off and try to at least take a catnap. If I feel up to it, I’ll post another entry at my usual time – unless it’s storming. Either way, stay safe, stay healthy, and I’ll catch you on the sunny side of things.
