Some leftover snow from the storm that passed through Madison/Conway before I arrived here last week. The weather forecasts all say there’s only a small chance of precipitation this weekend, so there’ll be no “White Christmas” here.โ€‚(Photo by the author)

Hi, there. Iโ€™m obviously off to a late start on the blogging front as it is shortly past noon on a wintry December day in upper New England. As I begin this, my 1,369th post in A Certain Point of View, Too, the temperature in Madison is 30ยฐF/-1ยฐC under sunny skies. With the wind blowing from the south-southwest at 2 MPH/4 KMH and humidity at 15%, the feels-like temperature is 43ยฐF/6ยฐC. Todayโ€™s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 33ยฐF/0ยฐC. Thereโ€™s no precipitation expected, and the low tonight will be 10ยฐF/-12ยฐC. (And for those of you who want to know when sunset will fall today, itโ€™ll be at 4:10 PM Eastern Standard Time.)

I donโ€™t have much in the way of news today, I woke up sometime around 7 AM, had a light breakfast of instant oatmeal, OJ, and coffee, and the obligatory Vitamin D supplement gummies, hand-washed the dish and cups I used, put on my โ€œlayers,โ€ and went outside for a brief โ€œlook around the front yardโ€ walk and to get some sun.

I should have looked at this photo from last Friday before planning to go outside. It might have made my morning less full of angst. (Photo by Patti Aliventi)

(I had yet another bit of momentary panic when I couldnโ€™t see where my beloved Star Wars: Film in Concert baseball cap was; I had a sickening thought that Iโ€™d lost it along with my Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet somewhere between New York State and here. I did think I had hung it on the coat-and-hat rack I bought for my Miami townhouse back in โ€™15, but because Stuart, my fellow renter, had hung a bunch of coats โ€“ that donโ€™t even belong to him, as I understand it โ€“ on the empty hooks I could not see it. I reluctantly rummaged through โ€œsomeone elseโ€™s coatsโ€ till, finally, I saw the shadowy outline of my baseball cap hanging where Iโ€™d left it on Friday. So, at least that crisis was averted.)

Is It Almost Christmas? Cos….

I wish I felt more in a โ€œChristmas moodโ€ today, considering that Christmas Eve falls on Sunday and Christmas Day is on Monday. But getting used to the cold weather is proving to be challenging, and I do miss Florida and my friends there. Iโ€™ll cope as best as I can, and maybe when both of my rooms are set up and I have access to all my stuff โ€“ especially my walking shoes that donโ€™t need shoelaces (I hate shoes with laces because of my dexterity issues, you seeโ€ฆ.) and my nail clippers โ€“ I will feel better.

On a positive note, I have a roof over my head, plenty of room for my aforementioned โ€œstuff,โ€ and my friend Patti lives next door, soโ€ฆIโ€™m gonna count my blessings today and thank the living Force.

I donโ€™t have much to add, so here are some music videos โ€“ that way this post will end on a positive note.

  2. It is great that Patti lives nearby. I like seeing the snow in your front yard but I understand if you don’t.

    1. Well, you’re from Scandinavia, and you grew up in an environment where snow was part of your environment. So, of course, it’s natural that you like seeing snow. I, on the other hand, lived in Florida for most of my life, and it only snowed in Miami once in all the years that I resided there. I have no choice but to adapt, but it’s emotionally not easy.

      1. Yes I can certainly understand that. I am married to a woman who’d rather not see any snow. She never got used to the snow despite living with it for years. Other people I know eventually adapted though and started liking it.

  3. I like the pics of snow, too, though like Thomas I can understand if you’re a little less enthusiastic about it. I’m glad you’re out walking taking in some sun. I await pics of spring greening. I miss the four seasons.

And I wish you all the best. I know it’s a big adjustment and it will be rough. And cold. And dark.
