Late Morning, Saturday, March 9, 2024, Madison, New Hampshire

Hi, there. Well, here I am sitting in my writing room on an early spring morning that looks and feels more like a winter’s day beginning.  The sky is sullen and gray, and it is chilly. Currently, the temperature is 35°F (2°C) under cloudy conditions. With the wind blowing from the east-southeast at 6 MPH (8 KmH), the feels-like temperature is 36°F (2°C). Today’s forecast calls for snow throughout the daylight hours. The high will be 40°F (5°C). Tonight, we can expect a mix of rain and snow. The low will be 32°F (0°C).

I didn’t sleep well last night, so I suppose I’m going to have to cancel my plans to work on Reunion: Coda today to make up for yesterday’s “lost day.”  I understand full well that both the errand running and the day off from work were necessary, but I also want to finish the novel in 2024. So when I went to bed last night, I did so in the hope that I’d sleep well and that I could at least make more revisions and edits to the manuscript, even if that meant waiting till Monday to start Scene Seven of Goodbye, Farewell, and Adios.

Alas, no. I had difficulty falling asleep – I have no idea when I dozed off while watching an episode of 1998’s Cold War – and staying asleep proved to be impossible. I kept on waking up throughout the wee hours of the morning – the longest spell of sleeplessness lasted from 1 AM to 3:30 AM – and all I managed to do, really, was to take catnaps that ended when I decided to get up and make some coffee between 7 and 8 AM.

As a result, I’m – obviously – tired, irritable, and a bit down today. And the wintry weather isn’t much help, either. So, even if I wanted to work on anything other than this blog post, I can’t. At least, not the way I feel now.

(Of course, if I get a second wind later, I might be able to salvage this Saturday and get some work done on the novel. But…that’s a big “if.”)

Anyway…I don’t have much to add; I no longer like writing about politics, and I haven’t bothered to think of lighter topics for the blog – such as To Be Watched (TBW) or To Be Read (TBR) lists – because I’m either focusing on the novel or a bit frustrated that many of my books and movies (especially books I need for writing or the ones that were on my last TBR list) are still out of my reach.

Accordingly, I’ll just close for now and see if I can focus on doing some chores in either of my rooms. So…until next time, stay safe, stay healthy, and I’ll catch you on the sunny side of things.
