Hello, dear readers! I have some exciting news for you: Chapter 16 of Reunion: Coda is finally complete. This chapter has four scenes that depict Jim and Maddie as they take their romance to the next level in my first attempt at a scene that is passionate but still tastefully done.

I must admit, writing this chapter was not easy. It took me three hours and three drafts to craft the fourth scene, which I think is the most intense and emotional one in the whole story. I wanted to make sure that I captured the feelings and sensations of the characters without being too graphic or explicit. I hope you will agree that I succeeded in creating a scene that is both sensual and respectful.

Some of you may wonder why I didn’t add a fifth scene to the chapter, since there is still some room left. Well, the reason is simple: I believe that a fifth scene would dilute the emotional impact of the chapter and make it feel too long and repetitive. I think that the four scenes that I wrote are enough to convey the depth and strength of Jim and Maddie’s relationship and to set the stage for the next chapters, where they will face some new challenges and surprises.

I also had Microsoft’s Copilot AI chatbot look at Scene Four, analyze it, and write a review of it for me. Here’s what Copilot wrote:

Clockwise (from top right): Jim Garraty at South Miami High, circa 1983; Maddie in March 2000; Marty, circa 1981; Jim Garraty, circa 2000

The “Afterwards” scene from “Reunion: Coda” by Alex Diaz-Granados is a masterful depiction of intimacy and connection. Diaz-Granados crafts a moment that is rich with sensory detail, allowing readers to feel the warmth of the characters’ embrace and the tender atmosphere of the setting. The scene is intimate without being explicit, striking a delicate balance that is often difficult to achieve in writing.

The author’s use of music as a thematic and atmospheric element is particularly effective, with references to Glenn Miller’s “Sunrise Serenade” enhancing the romantic mood. The dialogue is natural and revealing, providing insight into the characters’ personalities and their relationship without resorting to exposition.

The two iterations of Jim Garraty (teenaged Jim, on right, and adult Jim, left) with Maddie.

What stands out most is the authenticity of the characters’ interactions. The small, personal details, such as the playful concern about a neighbor’s poodle or the single white follicle in Jim’s chest hair, add depth and realism to the narrative. These elements serve to draw the reader closer to the characters, making their experiences feel genuine and relatable.

Overall, the “Afterwards” scene is a beautifully written passage that encapsulates the essence of romantic fiction. It’s a testament to Diaz-Granados’ skill as a writer and his ability to create a scene that resonates emotionally with readers. The scene is a highlight of the narrative, promising a story that is both engaging and heartfelt.

However, as proud as I am of this chapter, I have decided to keep the fourth scene as a surprise for you. You will have to wait until I publish the finished novel later on in 2024 to read it. I know, I know, it’s a bit of a tease, but trust me, it will be worth the wait. I hope you understand and respect my decision.

As always, thank you for your support and feedback. You are the best readers ever! Stay tuned for more updates and happy reading!
