Madison Spring Almanac

Hello, there.
Well, here we are on the last day of the workweek and meteorological spring! Currently, the temperature is 71°F (22°C) under sunny skies. With the wind blowing from the west-northwest at 9 MPH (15 Km/H) and humidity at 31%, the heat index is 75°F (24°C). Today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high of 73°F (23°C). Tonight, the skies will be clear. The low will be 41°F (5°C).
A Late Rising = Upended Schedule

I woke up at 10:15 AM today, which is unusually late, I usually wake up between 6 and 7 AM, a habit I picked up when I was still taking care of Mom between May 2010 and July 2015 and didn’t shake off when I moved to the Tampa Bay area in April 2016. I must explain, though, that I went to sleep sometime after midnight and woke up at 5:45 AM – it was extremely lit up by then, and I thought I’d stay awake…but I decided to go back to bed and sleep for a little while longer.
I don’t know if I’m tired because of my weird hours, my age (I’m 61 now), or suffering from stress or depression, but I hardly ever wake up this late in the day.

I’m sure of this: my habits – a rhythm that I set up when I was in Tampa and somehow kept to here in Madison – are thrown off course.
Consider: I finished breakfast less than 45 minutes ago, and even though I’ve been awake for more than two hours, I’m still wiping away the cobwebs of drowsiness.

To make matters worse: I have to rearrange my plan for today to squeeze in some time for my novel. I want to wrap up Reunion: Coda by the end of summer, and every wasted workday pushes that target further away.
There’s a silver lining to this mess: Yesterday I sketched out a pretty clear roadmap of Chapter 17’s third scene. So even if my plans are thrown into chaos and beyond, I have a solid clue about what’s going to unfold in this segment of the novel.

But I won’t let this setback stop me from pursuing my passion. I have a vision for this story, and I’m determined to see it through to the end. I hope you’ll join me on this journey as I share my progress and insights along the way.

And if you haven’t read Reunion: A Story yet, you can check out a free preview of the Kindle edition below. It’s a novella about a tale of lost love, teen angst, and maturity vs. callow youth. As one reviewer put it:
Outstanding! “Reunion” is full of honest emotion, mature reflection, and rich details that make the story real. A lovely and bittersweet memory that reminded me how important my high school days were to me.
Thank you for your support and encouragement. Now, let’s get to work!
