Musings & Thoughts for Wednesday, June 19, 2024, or: It’s Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Summer…and a Quick Update from the Writing Front

Late Morning/Midday, Wednesday, June 19, 2024, Madison, New Hampshire

Madison Summer Almanac

Hi, everyone. It’s a hot early summer day in eastern New Hampshire on this Hump Day of the workweek. The current temperature is 92°F (33°C) under sunny conditions. With humidity at 44% and the wind blowing from the south-southwest at 3 MPH (6 Km/H), the heat index is 102°F (39°C). There’s a heat advisory in effect. Today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high of 97°F (36°C). Tonight, we can expect mostly clear skies and a low of 73°F (23°C).

On Writing & Storytelling: A Quick Update on Reunion: Coda

Today’s update on Reunion: Coda is brief. I’m still stuck on Scene Two of Chapter 18 – I have a rough idea of the events, but I haven’t cracked the scene’s “puzzle.”

That doesn’t mean that yesterday was a waste. I didn’t write any new words, true, but I did coin a title for Chapter 18: The Gathering Storm: Mid- to Late March 2000.

The view from WriteItNow 5.1, as seen on June 19, 2024

As for the latest stats for Reunion: Coda, here’s where I stand on Juneteenth 2024:

Number of Chapters: 18 (17 completed, one underway)

Number of Pages: 395

Number of Words: 99,174

Action This Day

I have to work today, so my goal for the afternoon is to kick off Scene Two of The Gathering Storm. The day is young, and I expect to return to my keyboard with a fresh burst of vigor and passion after I take a break at noon.

For now, I’d be happy if I could craft a few sentences for the new scene, but I hope to do better than that and advance the novel towards its finish line.

So, that’s my plan for today. I’m eager to dive into Reunion: Coda and see what wonders and horrors await me as I write. Of course, I know that writing is not always a smooth and linear process, and sometimes things go horribly wrong. But that’s part of the thrill and agony of being a creative writer. I’m not going to let any monsters or plot holes scare me away or stop me from pursuing my dreams. I hope you’ll join me in this adventure and laugh with me (or at me) as I go. Have a wonderful Wednesday, wherever you are!

  1. That kind of temperature and humidity would leave condense on my Belgian beer bottles making people looking at my beer photos think they are too cold, when they are not. Anyway, you are having a hot and humid day, like Florida.

    1. Heat and humidity don’t faze me as much as cold weather. I find it easier to adapt to heat than to chilly temperatures.

      1. Yes we are a little different that way. My wife hates the cold too.
