Madison Summer Almanac

It’s another gray, wet, and chilly early summer day in rural, mountainous New Hampshire. Currently, the temperature is 63°F (17°C) under cloudy conditions. With humidity at 83% and the wind blowing from the southeast at 2 MPH (4 Km/H), it feels like 70°F (21°C). Today’s forecast calls for rain throughout the day. The high will be 66°F (19°C). Tonight, scattered light rain showers will affect the area. The low will be 60°C.
Rainy Days Bring on the Summer Blahs

I’ve been up and about since slightly after 8 AM, but I was greeted by a gray and gloomy morning. It was so dark that I thought it was 6 AM, but when I began the process of brewing coffee I casually glanced at the clock and saw it was 8:10. My morale, which has not been all that high lately, took a nosedive. Even three mugs’ worth of Maxwell House coffee and the knowledge that today is Saturday did nothing to raise my spirits.
I had a heads-up that today was going to be a dreary and chilly summer day. The Weather app on my Lenovo PC has graphics that show what the next 10 days will look like, and I could tell from Thursday night that this weekend (including, sadly, yesterday) would be bleak, gray, and wet.
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know this isn’t a new thing or a result of moving from Florida to New Hampshire. I’ve always felt down on rainy days; the darkness and forced indoor time caused by bad weather make me grumpy and lazy. Especially in summer, and even more so on days that remind me of the final days of my mom’s life in July of 2015.

Things got worse when I didn’t write anything – apart from the blog post I did yesterday – even though I only had to fix and polish what I wrote on Thursday.
That’s why I wished for a different weather report for Madison today. I figured that if the sun was shining (or at least peeking through the clouds) I could crank out some work on Reunion: Coda for a few hours before embracing the weekend vibe.
Nope. The weather report was right. The sky is gloomy and the wind is chilly and damp. It’s not a day that inspires creativity and productivity.
Too bad. I was hoping to get some work done today, but it seems like the New England weather has other plans for me on this wet Saturday.

Sounds exactly like northern Sweden in summer. If the temperature was in the 60’s and it was rainy and the temperature in the lake water was 60’s we went swimming or fishing. At least there were no alligators or water snakes like here in Texas. I have to admit that now a day I cannot go swimming in those temperatures. Anyway, there will be better days soon.
