Madison Summer Almanac

Hi there, folks, and welcome to another edition of A Certain Point of View, Too. I’m starting this post late in the warm early summer morning of the first day of a new workweek. The temperature is 75°F (24°C) under mostly cloudy conditions. With humidity at 61% and the wind blowing from the west-northwest at 6 MPH (9 Km/H), the feels-like temperature is 84°F (29°C). The forecast for today calls for heavy rainfall in the afternoon. The high will be 76°F (24°C). Tonight, we can expect scattered rain showers. The low will be 59°F (15°C).

Weekend Update, Part the Second: After My Sunday Outing

Yesterday, I told you how Patti’s husband Marc was nice enough to drive me to Hannaford so I could get some milk and a few other things to fill up my pantry. The day was cloudy and sometimes wet, but we lucked out and found a long break from the rain. I was glad not only because I didn’t have to use Hannaford to Go – which is handy for getting groceries delivered but expensive, too, since it needs credit card payments and a $10 delivery fee for orders under $150 – but because I got to see the town for a bit.

After that, though, Sunday, June 23 turned into “a snoozefest.” The weather – which changes a lot because of how the mountains in New Hampshire mess with it – got worse and we had some showers and clouds.

Of course, that meant the skies were almost pitch black, and it was cold, too. So, the dreariness of the day crushed any hope I might have had to work on Reunion: Coda. I wanted to tweak Scene Two of the novel’s eighteenth chapter a little, but, nope, I couldn’t light even the tiniest of creative fires. Instead, I wound up watching videos on YouTube and wasting way too much time on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Action This Day

Clockwise (from top right): Jim Garraty at South Miami High, circa 1983; Maddie in March 2000; Marty, circa 1981; Jim Garraty, circa 2000

As I mentioned before, today is the beginning of a new workweek, and that means I’ll get to work on Scene Two of Chapter 18 later this afternoon. The current draft has a decent structure for the scene, but it feels too short, and every time I read it I think it could use more dialogue. So after I take a break around noon and sit at my desk to continue the novel, I will do my best to deal with this challenge as the situation permits.

So, on that note, I’ll close here. Adios, amigos!

    1. Thanks, Thomas. I accomplished my goal for the day; I revised and edited Scene Two so it fits my vision for the story better than the rough draft did.
