Weekend Update, Part the First, or: A Dark, Wet Saturday

Yesterday was, as they say, a washout. The skies were gray and sullen; when it wasn’t raining or drizzling, it was dark and chilly. I don’t recall, honestly, seeing the sun at all on the last Saturday in June 2024. So as I sat at the dining room table and drank my coffee after breakfast, I remembered many childhood summer days when I couldn’t hang out with my friends in my beloved Miami neighborhood – Coral Estates Park.

Weekends are my writing-free days – even writers deserve a break from their craft – but I had the itch to sketch out Chapter 18’s Scene Three. But the bleak, dismal clouds and the cold of the day dampened my enthusiasm to work on Reunion: Coda.

I pushed aside any hopes of working on the novel and settled into my usual Weekend in New Hampshire routine of reading, listening to music (mostly classical), surfing the web, wasting time on social media, and playing Regiments.

This is from my second Mobile Defense skirmish on Medium difficulty. I only lost seven vehicles (M2 Bradley IFVs and M1 Abrams (of different models) and two ground-attack aircraft.

I also gave a shot at watching some of the extra features from my 2021 Indiana Jones: The Complete 4-Film Collection 4K UHD Blu-ray set, but I couldn’t get into it.

The one highlight? I whipped up a tasty sandwich with Thomas’ “Everything” sandwich bread and a slice of provolone cheese before hitting the sack.

A Sunny Sunday?

As for today?

The sun is shining and it feels a bit cozier than yesterday, but I’m not going to change my weekend habits. I might try to watch one of the five Indy movies later,

I’m planning to link my Disney+ account to my bedroom TV. I subscribed to the streaming service mainly to watch its original Star Wars content. I had it linked to my smaller TV when I lived in the Tampa Bay area. However, since I only started using my bigger 4K UHD set in New Hampshire, I haven’t connected the bedroom TV to Disney+.

I hope the weather conditions, with partly sunny skies and warm temperatures, don’t change. I feel better on days like today than I do when the clouds roll in and everything is cast in a dull, leaden light. It’s supposed to be sunny over the next few days, and I hope that tomorrow will usher in a more productive and satisfying workweek.
