In Reunion: Coda, a narrative that traverses the vibrant backdrops of South Florida in the early ’80s and the bustling streets of New York City in the early 2000s, we delve into the lives of Jim Garraty and Maddie, both in their prime thirties. Here are some common threads that bind their characters:

1. Educational and Historical Inclinations: Jim and Maddie emerge from environments that deeply value education and a rich understanding of history. While Jim’s fascination is primarily with military history, echoing the likes of Stephen Ambrose in his dual role as a professor and writer, Maddie’s historical interests are more eclectic. This shared passion for the past often becomes a confluence of their intellectual dialogues.

2. Musical Harmony: Music is a resonant part of both characters’ lives, albeit expressed differently across time. By 2000, Jim has transitioned from a performer—a bass/baritone in his school choirs—to an avid listener, with a penchant for classical symphonies, cinematic scores, and the timeless melodies of the Great American Songbook and the Big Band era. Maddie, on the other hand, graces the stage as a virtuoso pianist with the New York Philharmonic and captivates audiences at the Clipper Bar and Grill with her diverse musical selections.

3. Worldly Curiosity: Both Jim and Maddie possess an insatiable curiosity about the world and embrace a myriad of ideas and experiences. Their travels, often for work—Jim’s scholarly pursuits take him across Europe and Asia, while Maddie’s artistic commitments lead her to illustrious stages in London, Vienna, and Berlin—reflect their shared desire to explore and appreciate cultures beyond their own.
