Late Morning/Midday, Saturday, October 12, 2024, Madison, New Hampshire
I am running late on this sunny but cold Saturday morning in Madison’s Eidelweiss District. I don’t know when I went to sleep last night; I only know that it was much later than it should have been. A trip to the bathroom at 6:20 AM didn’t help either. I went back to sleep, but the cold temperatures made that endeavor difficult. When I woke up for good, it was already way past 9 AM and I felt tired and grumpy.

It’s still cold on my last Saturday in New Hampshire. The temperature is 57°F (14°C) under sunny but windy conditions. Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies, but the high won’t climb above 59°F (15°C). By New England standards, that’s not too bad; I’ve experienced colder, less pleasant temperatures (and snow!) in winter and even spring. And judging by my experience here, if I wasn’t compelled to move back to Miami, I might have adjusted to the region’s climate conditions.
Not much to share today, but here’s a spark of excitement: Yesterday, after a long creative dry spell following the last chapter, I finally penned the opening scene for Reunion: Coda’s 20th chapter. It feels like finding an oasis in the desert of ideas!

Sadly, my adventure back to Miami is just around the corner (I’m heading out either on October 17 or 18). Consequently, I’m pausing most novel-related activities until I reach “home” and settle in.[1]
For those of you who are following the progress of my novelist’s journey, here is how things stand now:
- Chapters (Completed): 19
- Chapters (including the one I started yesterday): 20
- Pages (9″ X 6″ paper size): 454
- Wordcount: 112,987
That’s all the news I have to share, so until next time, sayonara!
[1] I’m hoping that this time around, getting me settled will go more quickly and smoothly.

I am in Chicago for a wedding and 59 degrees that is about what it is here too. A lot cooler than Texas.
