Late Morning, Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Miami, Florida

Greetings from sunny Miami, where winter seems to be on permanent vacation! Today’s weather is brought to you by the letter ‘H’ for hot and humid, with temperatures flirting with the 80s (Fahrenheit) and a ‘feels like’ of 90ยฐF (32ยฐC). The sun is shining, the sky is mostly clear, and those heavy jackets I dusted off for the New England winter last year are safely tucked away. Expect a slight reprieve later this week as the polar vortex makes a cameo appearance in Central Florida, bringing temps down to a brisk mid-70s (20s Celsius). But don’t worry, this Miami heat won’t be dethroned for long.

And speaking of heat, yesterday was Presidents’ Day, and I decided to embrace the three-day weekend spirit. Instead of diving into the third scene of Chapter 25 in Reunion: Coda, I chose to kick back. After an absurdly early start at 5 AM, my brain was already playing hooky by 10 AM. Groggy and creative writing don’t mix well, so I gave Scene Three a rain check.

What did I do instead, you ask? Well, I indulged in some leisurely reading and gaming. I thought about watching a movie, but I’m a bit of a movie snob when it comes to streaming. With over 400 films on Blu-ray and DVD, my digital collection on Movies Anywhere feels like a sad little fraction. My TV and Blu-ray player are still in a state of disconnection, so any movie-watching had to be done on my PC โ€“ not exactly the gold standard, but it’ll do in a pinch.

This screengrab from my Blu-ray.com “Collection” page shows only a portion of the movies I own on Blu-ray.

But enough of the leisurely diversions โ€“ today marks a return to the grind. I’ll be diving back into “Reunion: Coda” this afternoon, determined to outline Scene Three and set the stage for tomorrow’s writing session. With a clear mind and a fresh cup of coffee, Iโ€™m ready to tackle the creative beast once more.

So there you have it, dear reader โ€“ a day in the life here in sunny, sizzling Miami. Stay tuned for more adventures in procrastination and the occasional burst of productivity.

  1. You certainly have comfortable weather. Here in Dallas it was in the 80’s a couple of days but now it is quickly dropping below freezing. Tonight it will be 16 degrees, real feel -2. I think we’ll beat even New Hampshire.

    1. According to my Weather app, which I use to follow the weather in the various places I’ve called home, it’s currently nine degrees Fahrenheit in Madison, NH, and it’s expected to drop to two degrees later tonight. The feels-like temperature is -1 degree Fahrenheit.

Meanwhile, in Miami it’s 76 degrees and we have light rain falling in the area. (I don’t know if we’re getting any precipitation in my neighborhood, but that’s what my app says.)

      2. It’s further north. I used to call it “Almost Canada” (since the state has a border with that country) or “Almost Maine” (Madison is seven miles away from the state line). It’s possible, of course, that a polar vortex can make Dallas colder depending on its shape…so perhaps someday Texas will beat New Hampshire cold-wise.

        Just not today. ๐Ÿ™‚
