I don’t look like this, but….

Midday, Friday, March 7, 2025, Miami, Florida

Hi, everyone, and welcome to the Friday edition of A Certain Point of View, Too. Here in South Florida, the temperature is 75°F (24°C) under sunny conditions. With humidity at 46% and the wind blowing from the east-southeast at 8 MPH (13 Km/H), it feels like it’s 81°F (28°C). Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies. The high will be 78°F (26°C).

Yesterday was a long working day on my novel, but it ended up being both productive and rewarding. I’m not sure if this is because I’m in the final phase of writing the narrative for Reunion: Coda. (I still need to deal with the front and back matter, but that’s a later part of the process), or perhaps it’s because the last four scenes I’ve recently written have been lingering in my mind for a while. They were not fully formed and ready to emerge like Athena, but the basic elements have been swirling in my subconscious since I began this project two years ago, next Sunday.

Interestingly, the actual amount of new content generated for the novel was quite modest: my work yesterday afternoon produced just 434 words, which is about the equivalent of two pages (9 inches by 6 inches). That’s shorter than the average five-paragraph essays I wrote for my English Composition courses at Miami-Dade Community College in my 20s, and certainly more concise than most of my blog posts.

If outlining and writing what began as the fourth scene of Chapter 26—only to evolve into the entirety of Chapter 27—were the only tasks I accomplished yesterday, my workday would have lasted only two and a half hours. Ah, if only…

Looking back on yesterday, I realize I should have called it a day after finishing the new chapter. But at 4:30 PM, I still had plenty of energy and was far from feeling drained. I was happy with my decision to wrap up Chapter 26 with Scene Three and start Chapter 27 with some fresh content. Not wanting to waste the remaining 90 minutes of my writing time doing non-writing tasks, I decided to spruce up some of the earlier chapters – even though I had already given them a good edit and revision ages ago.

Alas, I didn’t clock out – metaphorically speaking – at 4:30 PM. Instead, I worked on Reunion: Coda almost past midnight. As a result, I didn’t sleep well with all that leftover adrenaline rushing through my system, and I only dozed off for a couple of hours before getting out of bed sometime after 8 AM.

As a result of my overlong workday, I might not be terribly productive today. I do plan on returning to my desk by 3 PM, but realistically, I will be extremely lucky if I can get anything accomplished besides non-writing chores.
