Hi there, folks!

Well, I’m now officially a novelist! After many years and several failed attempts to write a long work of fiction, I published Reunion: Coda – Book 2 of the Reunion Duology yesterday via Amazon. First as a Kindle e-book, and – as of this morning – in hardcover and paperback editions.

Kindle Edition Cover Design: Juan Carlos Hernandez

In Reunion: Coda, Jim Garraty’s journey continues as he navigates the intricate dance between past regrets and present hopes. Now a successful history professor, Jim’s life is a tapestry of unspoken love, haunting memories, and the pursuit of emotional closure.

As Jim reflects on his high school years and the profound impact of his relationships, he grapples with the lessons learned from missed opportunities and the unpredictable nature of life. Through introspective moments and heartfelt letters, Jim uncovers the strength to confront his deepest fears and embrace new beginnings.

Reunion: Coda delves into the complexities of love, loss, and the enduring power of memory. It also explores the significance of friendship and the unpredictable turns that shape our lives. This poignant novel is a heartfelt exploration of the choices that define us, the connections that sustain us, and the hope that guides us on the journey of self-discovery.

My experience with self-publishing has been varied. I have had several positive moments—some Kindle readers who appreciated Reunion: A Story purchased the new work on its release day and commenced reading immediately. One reader even informed me last night that she is thoroughly enjoying it.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has already purchased the Kindle e-book of Reunion: Coda. Your support means the world to me, and I truly appreciate it.

Other readers who either do not possess or prefer not to use Kindle e-readers or apps on their computers or mobile devices have inquired about the print edition. A fan of Reunion even asked if she could send me her copy for an autograph. Regrettably, I had to decline due to logistical challenges.

Regarding the print edition, both hardcover and paperback versions are now available—Amazon added them to the Reunion: Coda product page overnight. Nevertheless, I have encountered issues similar to those experienced in 2023 when revising Reunion: A Story for its much-needed reissue.

  • Formatting issues caused by Kindle Create, the app I use to prepare and upload manuscripts for publication via Kindle Direct Publishing
  • Errors (small ones, usually) in the proofreading process
  • Errors I committed during the publication process, especially the selection of cover art for the print edition

Last night, I spent a considerable amount of time fixing issues I noticed while reading my novel on the Amazon Fire app. Although most of the text appears satisfactory, a combination of errors from both Kindle Create and myself required me to stay up late, start the KC app, and make corrections to the novel’s imperfections. Despite attempts to prevent this by adjusting the formatting before publishing Reunion: Coda, the app’s coding for various options, such as Subheadings and Chapter Subtitles, repeatedly returned the formatting issue despite saving my work before exiting Kindle Create.

Nice cover art, but where’s the title? And the byline?

Another point of concern is that the paperback cover does not include the title or my name, although it is otherwise acceptable. I’ll try fixing that tomorrow. I’m too tired and irritated at the moment to deal with it today.

I have had to increase the prices of the two print editions to ensure that my royalties are reasonable – even higher than those for either the Kindle edition of the novel or Reunion: A Story. It is unfortunate to impose this change on my readers, whether they are returning customers or new ones, but it is important to note that the minimum price is set by Amazon. This pricing is determined based on factors such as printing costs and distribution expenses. Ultimately, I am also writing to make a modest living; I spent over two years working on Reunion: Coda, and I need to be compensated for my work.

Yep. This needs to be fixed.

Bottom line: This is what you can expect if you’ve bought Reunion: Coda as a Kindle e-book or want the print editions instead:

  • Kindle readers can expect to see the corrected version of Reunion: Coda by Wednesday, perhaps Thursday. Sometimes, Amazon surprises me and edits to e-book editions are applied faster, but it usually takes a bit longer to see them on our e-readers, PCs, or smartphones
  • The revised version of the hardcover edition should go live tomorrow.
  • The pricing (in the U.S.) for Reunion: Coda is as follows: Kindle e-book = $5.99; hardcover = $30.00; Paperback = $26

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has already purchased the Kindle e-book of Reunion: Coda. Your support means the world to me, and I truly appreciate it. If you have enjoyed the novel, please consider taking a moment to rate and/or review it on Amazon. Your feedback helps immensely.

To those who haven’t yet bought the novel, I gently encourage you to at least consider purchasing a copy. Your support is invaluable and helps me continue to write and share my stories.

I apologize for the production issues and any inconvenience they may have caused. Rest assured, I am working diligently to correct them.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday wherever you may be.
