Hello, Dear Reader!

It’s a splendidly sunny late spring day here in southeast Florida. The temperature has climbed to 88°F (31°C), and with the humidity sitting at 52% and a gentle west-southwest breeze wafting at 5 MPH (8 Km/H), it feels closer to 95°F (36°C). Yes, it’s one of those days where the warmth wraps around you like a familiar quilt—though some might prefer air-conditioning over nostalgia!

As I sit down to write, the enchanting melodies of Kiri Sings Kern play softly in the background. This album holds a special place in my heart, a treasure I picked up during my 10-month stint in Madison, New Hampshire. I originally bought it on CD, but the practical side of me got the digital version too—better safe than sorry with delicate computer drives, right?

Back when I was immersed in the “afternoon novel-writing shift,” this album became my loyal companion. At this time last year, I was just crossing the halfway mark of Reunion: Coda, and music was my muse, filling the silence with inspiration. Total silence always feels eerie to me, so I turn to music to strike just the right balance. In Tampa, where the journey of Reunion: Coda began, my soundtrack of choice was Mantovani and His Orchestra: Great Concerts. But when I moved to New Hampshire in December of 2023, that album tugged at my heartstrings, reminding me of the sunny warmth of Tampa. That’s when Kiri Sings Kern stepped in, providing comfort and a touch of nostalgia.

Speaking of Reunion: Coda, I was thrilled to learn today that someone purchased the Kindle edition of the novel! Moments like these remind me why I write—to connect with readers near and far. Keith Pruitt, a talented historian I know from the now-vanished site Epinions, was kind enough to buy the first book of the Reunion Duology, Reunion: A Story, last year. Seeing his support for the sequel makes my heart sing.

That’s all the news for now, but I hope wherever you are, you’re finding your own little moments of joy. Until next time, stay safe, stay healthy, and remember—there’s always something to smile about on the sunny side of life!

  1. Keith Pruitt, I remember him, now when you mention it. We are having a hot day here in Dallas. It was 93 degrees (103 real feel) this morning, and now it is 97.

    1. It’s definitely not good “dog walking” weather out there in the Lone Star State!

      1. No it isn’t. I think we are going to have to wait until sunset but it is predicted to still be 84 at midnight

      2. I’m glad that the yard here is shady and that our temperature is not as high as it is in northern Texas.

      3. I think you have a more even temperature. It goes up and down here a lot.

      4. It’s probably the breezes that blow in from the Atlantic.

I don’t think folks could live here (or in Texas) without air conditioning. Even with a more “even” temperature range in South Florida, the summer heat can be unbearable, especially in July and August. We’re already getting “feels-like” readings in the mid-90s in May.
