“Listen, and you will realize that we are made not from cells or from atoms. We are made from stories.” — Mia Couto
As October draws to a close and November gently approaches, I’m thrilled to share a milestone: the very first audio adaptation of my Jim Garraty stories is nearly complete.
Just yesterday, I received a message in my ACX inbox from Bryan Haddock, the producer behind Comings and Goings – The Art of Being Seen. Bryan let me know he’s wrapping up the recording sessions for the Audible edition and reached out with a thoughtful question about the Appendix. It turns out I had accidentally left two versions of a scene written from Kelly Moore’s perspective in the manuscript. Bryan’s attention to detail—and his genuine enthusiasm for the project—really warmed my heart. He wanted to be sure he recorded the correct version before moving into post-production.

This clip opens the main story, inviting you into Jim Garraty’s world with quiet urgency and emotional presence. It’s the first breath of the Garratyverse in audio form—where memory, kindness, and the art of being seen take center stage.
After a brief moment of embarrassment, I gathered myself and confirmed that he should proceed with the first version of Soft Light, Quiet Courage (Kelly’s Perspective)—the canonical scene featured in the published edition. The alternative draft was a product of my cautious side. Having always told Jim’s stories from his point of view, I wasn’t sure how retelling such a sensitive moment from a woman’s perspective would resonate. So I wrote a backup version, saved it in the original Word file, and forgot to remove it once I was confident the first one worked best.

Thursday marks the deadline for the finished Audible edition. If Bryan—whose dedication and care have been truly inspiring—delivers on schedule, Comings and Goings will be available to listeners by November 1. I can’t wait to hear how it all comes together and share this next chapter with you.
