The final Canva Pro cover for the Comings and Goings Audible edition.

Hi, friends.

It’s already late afternoon here in Central Florida, and I’m still refreshing my inbox like a hopeful kid waiting for a letter from summer camp. So far, no news from Amazon’s Audiobook Creative Exchange (ACX) about the two Jim Garraty titles currently in their quality assurance queue: Reunion: A Story and Comings and Goings – The Art of Being Seen.

Comings and Goings nearly made it through the review unscathed. The audio passed muster, but the original cover art—designed with care and intention—was flagged for having a border, a forbidden flourish in Audible’s design rulebook. No inappropriate text, no cluttered layout, just a border. So, last Friday, I bit the bullet and upgraded to Canva Pro ($120 a year) to rebuild the cover from scratch. It meets every spec now, but a week later, I’m still waiting for ACX’s final verdict.

Reunion: A Story

Meanwhile, Reunion: A Story—narrated with quiet grace by Brandon Padilla—was submitted Wednesday morning, just hours after Brandon uploaded the final tracks. I used my newly minted Canva Pro subscription to design a compliant cover, hoping to avoid another delay. The first review for Comings and Goings came back in less than 48 hours, so I’ve been checking my AOL inbox with cautious optimism. So far, silence.

A Call from Miami In this emotionally layered excerpt, Jim Garraty prepares for a routine phone call from his lifelong friend Mark Prieto — a call prefaced by academic fatigue, cryptic email, and the quiet rituals of a historian’s evening. What begins as a familiar rhythm of banter and memory becomes a slow descent into emotional rupture, as the setup gives way to a revelation that reshapes Jim’s world. A meditation on friendship, emotional compartmentalization, and the moment when history becomes personal.

There’s still time left in the business day, and ACX’s review process can take up to 10 days. If all goes well, Comings and Goings might be the first to appear on Audible and Apple Books. But if Reunion sails through with flying colors, it could leapfrog its sibling and debut first.

Either way, I’m proud of both adaptations—and of the narrators who brought Jim Garraty’s voice to life. If you haven’t yet read the Kindle or print editions, now’s a great time to dive in. And if you have, a review would mean the world. Your feedback helps new readers discover these stories and gives audiobook listeners a glimpse of what’s to come.

Thanks for being part of this journey. I’ll keep you posted.
