Hi, everyone.
It’s a gray and somewhat damp early autumn afternoon here in Central Florida. As I write this, it’s 82°F (28°C) under cloudy conditions, although high humidity and a gentle 5 MPH (9 Km/H) breeze from the east make it feel like 92°F (33°C). Today’s forecast calls for sporadic light showers and a high of 85°F (29°C) on this humid September day.
The weather has been wet and gloomy since early morning. I woke up before 7 to the sound of booming thunder in the distance and a light but persistent drizzle falling outside my bedroom window. It’s not raining now, but the radar map in my Weather app shows a line of showers – mostly light ones – approaching from the east-northeast.
And even though the forecast doesn’t predict heavy thunderstorms later this afternoon, I suspect we may see some of those as they pass through the area. I hope not – I don’t care for thunderstorms and the lightning that comes with them. But this is Florida, a state that is famous for being the “Lightning Capital of the U.S.”
