“You wanna know how I survived as long as I have? I trust no one. Assume everyone will betray you and you will never be disappointed.” ―Tobias Beckett to Han Solo
In February of 2018, Hasbro unveiled a three-figure wave from its Star Wars The Black Series collection of 6-inch scale action figures at the 115th North American International Toy Fair in its showroom in New York City’s Jacob K. Javitz Convention Center. This trio of figures depicted characters from three films of the Star Wars franchise – Solo: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars Episode IV:A New Hope, and Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. The trio consisted of:
- #68 Tobias Beckett
- #69 Rebel Trooper
- #70 Han Solo (Bespin)
Five months later, Hasbro delivered consignments of the new Star Wars The Black Series figures to its distribution partners, including Target, Walmart, and online stores such as shopDisney, Amazon, and BigBadBoyToystore.com.
Tobias Beckett

Beckett is a survivor, always quietly working out angles to come out ahead. He’s assembled a team of specialized scoundrels to carry out risky but profitable heists. ﹘ Packaging blurb, Star Wars: The Black Series #68 Tobias Beckett
Like the other Star Wars The Black Series figures in my modest and far-from complete collection of the 6-inch scale collectible action figures and vehicles, Tobias Beckett is is nicely sculpted, painted, and comes with cool accessories.

A survivor who assembled a team of specialized scoundrels to carry out risky but profitable heists, Tobias Beckett is finely detailed in this action figure. Inspired by his appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story, he boasts film-accurate features. ﹘ shopDisney blurb
The red-and-black Star Wars: The Black Series red-and-black box contains the following:
- Tobias Beckett Action Figure
- BlasTech Sideloader DG-29 Heavy Blaster
- BlasTech RSKF-44 Heavy Blaster
Star Wars: The Black Series #68 Tobias Beckett is a nicely rendered action figure based on the badass thief and gun-for-hire played by Woody Harrelson (Cheers, The Messenger, Midway) in Solo: A Star Wars Story. The figure is based on the character’s appearance in the post-Mimban portions of director Ron Howard’s 2018 Star Wars Anthology film and is outfitted with an Imperial Army officer’s stolen uniform, a trench coat reminiscent of Humphrey Bogart’s in 1942’s Casablanca, and Beckett’s twin-holster gun belt.
Tobias Beckett is armed with two personal weapons: a BlasTech Sideloader DG-29 heavy blaster and a BlasTech RSKF-44 Heavy Blaster. These proved useful on the mountainous planet Vandor, where Beckett and his gang (which included a young Han Solo and a recently-freed Wookiee named Chewbacca) attempt a daring heist on an Imperial 20-T Railcrawler conveyex transport (aka Conveyex) to steal coaxium for the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate.

My Take
I’ve been a Star Wars fan for 43 years. I saw Star Wars (aka Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope) in mid-October of 1977, and I began collecting Kenner’s 3.75-inch action figures and their related vehicles and playsets in March of 1978. The original trilogy will always be my favorite, although I also love the 1999-2005 Prequels, the Lucasfilm Animation Star Wars animated series, The Mandalorian live-action series, and the 2015-2019 Sequel Trilogy and the two A Star Wars Story standalones.
Even though I have to keep my collection tightly under control and can’t buy every Star Wars The Black Series action figure, I do try to acquire figures from each of the movies.

Like all of the Star Wars: The Black Series figures that I own, #68 Tobias Beckett is a well-designed and executed rendition of a Star Wars film character. Advances in toymaking technology and design have improved the “look” of Star Wars figures since the original manufacturer, Kenner Toys, introduced the “micro-action figure”line in early 1978. Per its product page on shopDisney.com:Magic in the details
- Premium design and detail
- Includes two character accessories
- Multiple points of articulation
- Inspired by Solo: A Star Wars Story
- Part of the Star Wars: The Black Series by Hasbro
Although the points of articulation have a “toy-like” look (there’s simply no way to avoid that, especially in a figure of this size), they do allow for more life-like poses than the original 1978 action figures, which only had five points of articulation in each figure.
The larger size (six-inch scale versus three and three-quarter inch scale) also allows Hasbro’s sculptors to give the figures incredibly accurate detailing. This appeals to fans, especially adults and teenagers who judge their collectibles not just by how cool the figures are but also how closely they resemble the characters they represent. It’s easy to do that with droids, stormtroopers, and masked characters such as Darth Vader and Kylo Ren, but it’s harder to accomplish with humans like Han Solo (Harrison Ford or Alden Ehrenreich) or Tobias Beckett.
Star Wars: The Black Series Tobias Beckett is a good rendering of Woody Harrelson’s character from Solo: A Star Wars Story. The detailing, especially of Beckett’s determined facial expression, is incredibly life-like and evokes the character’s reputation as a dangerous and deadly gunfighter-for-hire.
Star Wars: The Black Series Tobias Beckett is, in my opinion, a collectible that is worthy of adding to anyone’s stash of Star Wars collectibles and toys.
