The school bell then did ring,

Breaking silence with its dinging sound,

Startled, Marty removed her arm from my wing,

I took a step back, relief and regret abound.

“Well,” I said in my best Harrison Ford voice,

“This is it, sweetheart,” I picked up my pack,

Turned toward the door to make my choice,

But then I felt Marty’s hand on my back.

“Hey,” she said gently as I turned around,

“You’re just going to leave without -“

She hesitated, then looked at me profound,

“Without a kiss goodbye?” she did shout.

“Well, I…” but before I could reply,

The most beautiful girl in South Miami High,

Wrapped her arms around me in a tight embrace,

And softly, tenderly, placed her lips on my face.

My first attempt to redo the front cover of Reunion. (C) 2018, 2023 Alex Diaz-Granados

Gently, tentatively, I returned the kiss,

I closed my eyes and felt a million sensations,

The scent of her perfume, the taste of strawberries bliss,

The clean minty breath, the rise and fall of her chest’s vibrations.

The school bell then did ring,
Breaking silence with its dinging sound,
Startled, Marty removed her arm from my wing,
I took a step back, relief and regret abound.

The palpable beating of her heart,

The welcome warmth of her presence,

All hit me at once with Cupid’s dart,

As we shared this moment of transcendence.

  1. Thanks, Thomas!

The Bing AI chatbot is still learning, and the resulting poem isn’t perfectly Shakespearean. Nonetheless, it’s better than anything I could have thought of on my own since I am not a constant student of Shakespeare, his works, or his style.
