Madison Summer Almanac

Hi, everyone, and welcome to another edition of A Certain Point of View, Too. It’s a warm, dimly-lit early summer day in my corner of Carroll County. The current temperature is 73°F (22°C) under partly sunny conditions. With humidity at 75% and the wind blowing from the northeast at 4 MPH (7 Km/H), the heat index is 86°F (30°C). Today’s forecast calls for scattered light showers. The high will be 77°F (25°F).  Tonight, scattered light rain will continue to affect the area. The low will be 61°F (16°C).

D-Day + 80 Years

Today also marks the 80th anniversary of a momentous event in world history: the D-Day landings in Normandy, France. It was the largest amphibious invasion in history and a turning point in the war. The operation, codenamed Overlord, involved thousands of ships, planes, and vehicles, as well as complex planning and coordination. The brave Allied soldiers who landed on the beaches faced fierce resistance from the German defenders but managed to secure a foothold that allowed the liberation of Western Europe. Today, we honor their courage and sacrifice and remember the fallen heroes who gave their lives for freedom.

On Writing & Storytelling: Back to Revising & Editing Chapter 17

The view from the Kindle Create app, Wednesday, June 5, 2024

Although I “finished” Chapter 17 late on Tuesday night, I’ve read it a few times over the past few days and, although I’m mostly happy with what I see “on the page,” it seems that Scene Four still needs some small tweaks before I can declare that it is “finished.”

(I still have to wait for my Beta Reader’s verdict on Scenes Three and Four. I’m crossing my fingers that those parts of That Moment Divine will impress her and won’t need much editing. But anything can happen, right?)

Later today, I’ll polish up the edits and revisions I can’t ignore. They may seem minor, but to me, any errors or gaps need to be fixed before Reunion: Coda hits the shelves later this summer. (Yes, I’m still hopeful that I’ll launch the novel before September. I’m aiming for a late July/early August release date, but I’d be okay with one in mid- to late August!)

I guess that’s it for my update today, so I’ll sign off. But hey, don’t forget that if you haven’t gotten yourself a copy of Reunion: A Story (the first book in the Reunion: Duology), you might want to give it a shot. It has racked up glowing reviews on Amazon and an average rating of 4.8 stars (out of five), and, as a self-published author, every penny counts.

  2. Very interesting history. D-Day is certainly a very important day for the world to remember. If you are Swedish there is a second reason to commemorate today. It is the Swedish independence day and national day. June 6 1523 Sweden declared its independence from Denmark under the leadership of King Gustaf. Sweden used to be independent during Viking times and early medieval times, but in the 1300’s Sweden, Norway and Denmark formed a union, which came to be dominated by Denmark until it was no longer bearable for Norway and Sweden. The Danish king at the time was Christian the Good (according to the Danes) called Christian the Tyrant by the Swedes.
