Novelist’s Log, Stardate 2407.6

I’m taking it easy today. It’s not just because it’s Saturday (and I have a long weekend off), but also because I’m beat. I had a good night’s sleep – or as good as possible, considering, – and got up at a decent time (7:45 AM), but it’s hot, sticky, and cloudy, so I’m feeling “low battery”.

As a result, unless I get a sudden spark of creativity before the night, I won’t touch Reunion: Coda today. I completed Scene Three of The Gathering Storm (Chapter 18) on Wednesday night, and I spent the next few days polishing it. I will leave it as is until my Beta Reader gives me the thumbs up.

Even though I complain a lot about the challenges of writing a debut novel, I have to say that I’m pleased with how far I’ve come since I began Reunion: Coda in March 2023. According to the Word Count tool on Microsoft Word, this is my current status:

  • Number of Chapters (including the Prologue): 18 – 17 completed, one in progress
  • Number of Pages (6” X 9”): 404
  • Number of Words: 101,670

That’s not too bad for my first novelist’s “at bat,” I think!
