Hello, everyone. It’s way past my usual posting time, but I got a ride to Hannaford (the Publix of the Northeast, if you will) from my buddy Marc for some grocery shopping. I haven’t consumed all of what I bought before, but I had no milk and not much cereal, sugar, bread, fresh fruit, or Stouffer’s French Bread Pizza left, so I had to go…even though I wasn’t sure I’d make it today, with this long holiday weekend and all.

I returned a couple of hours ago and stashed away the groceries. I’m wiped out – it’s humid and sweaty, just like Florida today – but I have a bit more pep in my step than lately.

I’m still not feeling great emotionally, but the quick trip to Hannaford was like a burst of light on a dark day. I tend to be shy and solitary – qualities that help me as a writer – but I long for many things from my Florida life. Especially from the longer Miami period than the shorter Tampa Bay years; I spent most of my life in “the 305”, so I know my way around there better than in New Hampshire. So even though I try to “tough it out” and adapt to rural life away from the familiar South Florida scene, I sometimes falter.

A photo I took of my first trip to a New Hampshire supermarket back in December 2023.

I have restocked my food supply, which has significantly reduced my stress.

Weekend Update, Part the First: An Uneventful Saturday

The view from the Kindle Create app, Wednesday, June 5, 2024

I took a break from Reunion: Coda yesterday; on Friday, I had a long, quiet, and sometimes stressful day of editing and revising the newest scene of chapter 18 in the novel. I also slept later than normal on the night of July 5/6 and got up at 7:45 AM, so I wouldn’t have been able to write yesterday even if I’d tried. I just didn’t have the stamina for it.

As expected, I followed my usual weekend pattern, a blend of reading, jamming to tunes on Amazon Music, binging YouTube videos (mostly from The Historical Gamer’s channel), and gaming. I also whipped up a tasty late lunch/early dinner (a BBQ cheeseburger with English muffins instead of hamburger buns), which I topped off later with a munchie before hitting the sack.

So…it was a chill Saturday here in the forest of eastern New Hampshire.

Summing Up the Weekend So Far with Poetry

Haiku

I write and edit,

Through a peaceful day of work,

Then a restful pause.

Septulet

Writing and reading,

Music fills the quiet space,

Videos flashing bright,

Gaming through the digital realms,

Cheeseburger on my plate,

A snack to sate the muse,

Creative day’s delight.

  1. They are nice poems. I am glad you got some grocery shopping done today.

    1. Thanks. Poetry is harder for me to write cos I don’t do it enough. I’m glad you enjoyed them.

As for going grocery shopping, I’m happy I went. Not only did I need to restock the fridge and pantry, but I needed to leave the house for a while. I’m by nature a “homebody,” but I need to get out every so often.

      1. Yes, staying at home all the time is not healthy.

      2. Nope. It’s not.
