It’s early afternoon on this second day of my workweek, and as I sit here typing, I feel like I’m baking in a sunny spring oven. The weather gods have decided to turn up the heat, blessing us with 82˚F (28˚C) and a humidity that seems determined to hug me from every angle. With the sun shining and a gentle breeze barely bothering to show up, it actually feels more like 89˚F (32˚C). If today’s forecast is to be believed, it’s going to stay bright and balmy, peaking at 83˚F (28˚C)—so much for spring’s subtlety!

Last night, with a sigh and a dramatic click, I ordered a replacement for my dearly departed Lenovo IdeaCentre all-in-one PC. Yes, I’ve got a trusty laptop as my emergency sidekick, but let’s be honest—my Ideapad S340 just isn’t cut out for the big leagues. I had grand plans to wait a few months before splurging on a new computer, but Nina, my ever-wise landlady, convinced me that waiting was a fool’s errand. Toss in those pesky tariffs making electronics pricier than ever, and suddenly, I found myself bravely clicking “order” on a Lenovo IdeaCentre Business All-in-One. This new beast comes with a touchscreen, AMD processor, 8GB DDR5 RAM, 512GB SSD, wireless charging base, wireless keyboard and mouse, HDMI, Wi-Fi 6, and Windows 11 Home—basically, the superhero my desk desperately needs.

Naturally, I’m less than thrilled about shelling out for such a big-ticket item, especially with a three-year Asurion service plan tagging along for the ride. While my laptop is a handy backup in a pinch—whether my PC kicks the bucket or I’m off on a vacation—the tiny screen and cramped keyboard are just begging for eye strain and a parade of “fat finger” typos. It’s a reminder that sometimes, size really does matter.

I placed my order just before 9 PM, and the computer apparently shipped at 3:47 AM from Newark, Delaware via FedEx. Amazon says I’ll see my package on Thursday, but FedEx’s tracking seems to think my new PC is still enjoying its pre-shipment nap. At this point, I’ll be happy just to greet my shiny new gadget at the door—even if my wallet is still nursing a mild panic attack. Unexpected expenses: the plot twist I never asked for!

If you’ve been thinking about diving into Reunion: Coda or exploring the Garratyverse, now’s a perfect time. Every purchase helps me chip away at the cost of this unexpected computer replacement—and keeps me writing, editing, and world‑building without squinting at a tiny laptop screen.
