Yesterday, I officially began writing And the Horse You Rode in On — and it feels good to say that out loud. This one has always announced itself as a novella, not a novel pretending otherwise, and I’m letting it be exactly what it wants to be.
The story takes place in the mid‑1970s, back when the world felt a little sun‑bleached and wide open, and without giving anything away, it’s about the moment Jim and Mark become fast friends. Not the adult version of their bond, not the later complexities — just the spark, the beginning, the thing that sets everything else in motion.
The writing process is flowing better than I expected. The scenes are arriving with that easy click I haven’t felt in a while, and it’s a relief to ride that momentum again.
I’m glad the writing block is lifted.
